Modern technology gives us many things.

Apple unveils the iPhone 7 with a range of new features and water resistant design

Apple has unveiled the new iPhone 7 which not only has a new refined and water resistant design but is packed with a host of features including a new camera system and home button.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be available in Australia on September 16 with pre-orders kicking off on September 9.

The new iPhone has a striking new design with a highly polished bead-blasted aluminium chassis that merges seamlessly with the device’s Retina HD display.

Apple revealed a new high gloss jet black model which will also be available alongside a regular black model plus silver, gold and rose gold.

The iPhone 7 is 6.1mm thick while the iPhone 7 Plus is 7.3mm and have a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens respectively.

Here are the new features:

HOME BUTTON

The home button has been re-engineered as a force-sensitive surface rather than a physical button to provide taptic feedback.

And the iPhone home button can also be programmed with other functionality by the user for the first time.

It will still, of course, enable regular features like Touch ID and Siri as well as authorising Apple Pay.

WATER RESISTANT

Yes, Apple has finally created an iPhone with an IP67 water and dust resistant design.

So that means if your device gets splashed or dunked it’s not the end of the world.

And the same goes for dust so now users have more protection than ever before.

CAMERA

The camera on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus has undergone plenty of changes and stands as the most advanced camera you’ll find on a mobile device.

The camera has 12-megapixel resolution with f/1.8 aperture, optical image stabilisation and quad LED True Tone flash.

Every time you take a photo with iPhone 7, there are more than 100 billion operations like white balance, colour enhancement and focus performed in just 25 milliseconds.

And with the iPhone 7 Plus, the camera has two lenses – a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens and 12-megapixel telephoto lens – to enable even more features including up to 2x optical zoom up and 10x digital zoom.

Users can also create depth of field images – with the foreground in focus and the background blurred – like you would with an SLR camera.

The front facing camera now has a 7-megapixel resolution.

RETINA HD DISPLAY

The iPhone 7 display has also had an upgrade with a wider colour gamut that is now 25 per cent brighter than the iPhone 6S screen.

This will come on handy when viewing the device in bright sunlight.

NO HEADPHONE JACK

As predicted, Apple has removed the headphone jack to make the device thinner and improve the built-in speakers.

The earphones that come with the iPhone will now connect through the Lightning port.

But there’s no need to panic if you have a set of regular cable headphones and earphones because a Lightning to 3.5mm jack adaptor will come with the iPhone 7 as well.

Apple also unveiled new Airpods earphones – wireless and wirefree earphones – which will be available in late October.

STEREO SPEAKERS

For the first time on an iPhone, Apple has placed speakers on the top and bottom of the device.

This was made possible with the removal of the headphone jack and is sure to enhance the listening experience when enjoying music, movies and games.

The iPhone 7 will also be twice as loud as the iPhone 6.

PERFORMANCE

The iPhone 7 is powered by the new A10 Fusion chip which means it is twice as fast as the iPhone 6S and three times faster in terms of graphics performance.

Apple says the A10 Fusion chip is the most powerful processor ever created for a smartphone.

BETTER BATTERY LIFE

Everything has improved on the iPhone 7 including the battery life which Apple says will be the longest ever on an iPhone.

Users will be able to enjoy up to two hours more battery life with the iPhone 7 than the iPhone 6S and an extra hour with the iPhone 7 Plus over the iPhone 6 Plus.
