Modern technology gives us many things.

eBay partners with Google so now you can shop using your voice

Christmas is less than a month away and people are ramping up the Christmas shopping that’s a lot easier now thanks to a partnership between eBay and Google and the launch of a whole new experience.

From today, Australian customers will be able to use Google Assistant to access eBay’s incredible range of products simply by saying “Ask eBay” or “Talk to eBay” to search for a gift.

There is also a new “What’s it Worth” feature where Australian shoppers can ask what something is worth on eBay – an easy way to get started for them to turn their household items into cash.

More than 60 million listings in a wide range of categories on eBay are now open to voice searches using Google Home devices along with compatible Android and iOS devices.

“eBay has a long history of being the first to market with new innovations here in Australia, and our latest collaboration with Google is no exception,” says Tim MacKinnon managing director of eBay Australia and New Zealand markets.

“eBay built this technology from the ground up and it’s the perfect example of how artificial intelligence is helping to make a truly personalised shopping experience.

“As of today, we are bringing the best of eBay to your home with Google Assistant, making shopping as simple as a conversation.”

eBay was one of the first brands to collaborate with Google to take advantage of the multi-service switching capability that allows you to carry a voice conversation on Google assistant over to your phone seamlessly.

So a customer can tell Google they want to purchase an item on eBay while they are in their kitchen, living room or car and then switch to their smart phone to complete the transaction.

“We are the only marketplace in Australia that has this multi-surface switching capability, supported by the years of structured data we have accumulated around the Australian shopping experience,” MacKinnon said.

“As we look to the future of shopping, powerful voice interfaces like Google Assistant will drive seamless and personal shopping experiences for consumers among all platforms.

“We are looking at the future of retail here, and we are excited to be at the early stages of this new commerce frontier, bringing the eBay shopping and selling experience closer to our customer’s everyday lives.

“Integrating voice capability to the shopping experience makes it even easier for Australians to check eBay for the best deal.”

eBay has been in Australia for 18 years and has become a retail superpower with more than 40,000 Australian businesses and more than 11 million unique Australian visitors every month.

In 2017, there are been more than 239 million hours spent browsing, searching, comparing and purchasing products at ebay.com.au.

You can talk to eBay of devices with Google Assistant, including Google Home Mini by saying “Hey Google, ask eBay” or “Hey Google, let me talk to eBay”.
