Google to launch All Access streaming music service

allaccessGoogle has joined the ranks of companies offering music services with the launch of All Access which allows users to stream unlimited music for a monthly fee.

The $US9.99 pricing puts it in line with similar popular services like Spotify which costs $11.99 a month here in Australia.

The service was announced at the annual Google developer’s conference in San Francisco and allows listeners to customise songs selections from 22 different genres as well as set up their own playlists.

The World Wide Web is 20 years old today

On April 30, 1993, CERN – actually the European Organisation for Nuclear Research – decided the technology invented by British physicist Tim Berners-Lee to help physicists share information between universities around the world – would be offered to users for free.

As a result the web flourished and would go on to change they way we communicate.

Apple launches celebration for a decade of iTunes

ituneslogothumbIt's been 10 years since Apple opened the virtual doors of the iTunes Music Store and changed the way we buy music, movies, TV shows, apps and books.

It was April 28, 2003 when the first iTunes Store went online in the US to give people and easy – and legal – way to download digital music.

At the time the store had just 200,000 songs in its library priced at 99 cents each.

Coalition outlines NBN plans - earlier, cheaper but slower

libnbnthumbThe Coalition has unveiled its plans for the National Broadband Network which it says it will deliver sooner and cheaper - but slower - than Labor’s version.

It was presented by Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and shadow communications minister Malcolm Turnbull at a special press conference.

The Coalition plan is estimated to be $17 billion cheaper ($20.4 billion to Labor’s $37.4 billion) because they will adopt a FTTN (fibre to the node) approach instead of Labor’s plan for FTTH (fibre to the home).

Twitter has more than 20 million fake users

According to the New York Times, four per cent of the world’s estimated 500m Twitter users are not real.

Gaining fake followers unintentionally is common but there is also a growing industry to sell hordes of fake followers to make users look more popular and influential.

Facebook begins trial to run ads in your news feed

facebook-iconFacebook has begun a trial that will allow businesses to deliver relevant ads to users in their news feed based on their browsing interests.

Facebook Exchange, introduced last year, made it possible for advertisers and agencies to have their targeted ads on the right side of the site on the desktop.

The trial will introduce ads in the news feed – described by Facebook as the most engaging place on the web.
