Lytro - a revolutionary way to take and view photographs

lytro2A device that will change the way we take and enjoy our digital photographs is on its way to Australia. It’s called the Lytro Light Field Camera and will go on sale on October 10.

The Lytro camera, which was invented by Australian Dr Ren Ng Ph.D, doesn’t look like a conventional camera – it has a rectangular shape with a lens at one end and a small touchscreen at the other.

What sets the Lytro apart is the fact that it's a light field camera which means it can capture the entire light field instead of just a single plane of light like a regular camera.

Wirelessly transfer pictures, videos with Eye-Fi memory card

eyefithumbEye-Fi – the world’s first wireless SDHC memory card – is now available in Australia to make sharing and organising your photos even easier.

The new X2 series, which looks like a regular SD memory card, has built wi-fi and can be used to store images but also have the added intelligence to share both pictures and videos to your computer, tablet or smartphone.

Eye-Fi has native apps for iPhone, iPad and Android as well as desktop apps for Mac and Windows users.

Canon unveils the new EOS 5D Mark III DSLR

Canon has just revealed its eagerly-awaited high-performance digital SLR camera – the EOS 5D Mark III – designed for expert amateurs and professionals.

The EOS 5D Mark III has a new 23 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and an all-new Digic 5+processor.

Another new feature is the 61-point High Density Reticular AF (auto focus) system and improved high definition movie capability.

Olympus launches OM-D compact system camera

Olympus Imaging has announced the new OM-D E-M5 Compact System camera with the world’s fastest auto-focus and the world’s first five-axis image stabiliser.

The device has an integrated 1.44 megapixel electronic viewfinder plus a 16 megapixel LiveMOS image sensor that’s encased in a weather-proof alloy body.

The new OM-D series offers the convenience of a compact camera with the quality of a larger digital SLR thanks to its powerful image processor and the ability to use interchangeable lenses.

Canon reveals new 2012 range of digital cameras

Canon has rolled out its latest range of compact digital cameras which include GPS technology, wi-fi, touchscreen control and full HD video recording.

There are new models in the popular IXUS and PowerShot ranges along with an all-new rugged waterproof model.

The demand for high quality compact cameras is high considering how well the latest smartphones can capture our day-to-day images.

Nikon unveils new 2012 digital camera range

Nikon has just announced its new 2012 range of CoolPix digital compact cameras which include new models in the P Series, S Series and L Series.

These pocket digital devices have inherited some of the features of Nikon’s DSLR (digital single lens reflex) cameras so users can capture great pictures with ease.

In the P Series the new models are the P310 and the P510 – high performance compact cameras that offer ease of use as well as manual controls and some of the features you’d expect to find on a DSLR.

Lost underwater camera is reunited with owner

The lost Panasonic Lumix FT10  underwater camera Tech Guide reported a couple of weeks ago has been finally re-united with its owner.

Snagged by fisherman Adam Biro on the Hawkesbury River, the FT10 was still working and contained 150 images.

And so search for the owner began and culminated with the FT10 being to returned 12-year-old Emma Griffin who lost the device while swimming.

Panasonic adds GX1 to the G Series camera line-up

Panasonic has added another camera to the Lumix G Micro System range – the premium compact GX1.

The GX1 is the latest Micro Fourth Thirds camera – a device with the quality and control of a larger DSLR but the convenience of a compact.

This latest device introduced a number of new features including a 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor, customisable buttons, adjustable zoom speed and a level gauge.
