Life of Pi had to be in 3D says Oscar-winning director Ang Lee

pi1Oscar-winning director Ang Lee says he took on the huge task of creating the film adaptation of the popular novel Life of Pi with 3D in mind.

Lee won his second Oscar for Best Director for Life of Pi which is out today on Blu-ray and DVD.

Life of Pi tells the story of a boy who is hurtled in to a life or death battle at sea with a Bengal tiger before forming an unlikely connection.

Blu-ray Disc Association looking to bring native 4K to disc

bd4kmaster3The Blu-ray Disc Association has confirmed it will be looking at ways to deliver ultra high definition 4K content on the popular Blu-ray format.

A new task force set up by the BDA and made up of member studios, consumer electronics manufacturers and media technology companies will look at the possible ways Blu-ray can be extended to support native 4K.

4K (otherwise known as ultra high definition) televisions from Sony and LG, both 84-inch, are already available in Australia.

The Hobbit to be released with UltraViolet so you can enjoy it anywhere, anytime

ultraviolet3When The Hobbit hits shelves on DVD and Blu-ray on May 1st it will become the first title available with UltraViolet – a new way to access and enjoy your movies anywhere.

UltraViolet will allow movie lovers to create a digital library in the cloud and access them anywhere and anytime.

Starting with The Hobbit from Warner Bros Home Entertainment, Ultraviolet will make it possible to stream or download your movies to a wide range of devices including iPhones, iPads, Android smartphones, computers and smart TVs.

Skyfall released on Blu-ray and DVD this week

skyfall3Skyfall, the latest and most successful Bond film of all time, will be available to buy this week on Blu-ray and DVD after dominating the world box office.

The 23rd instalment in the Bond series – the world’s longest running film franchise – stars Daniel Craig as James Bond and is directed by Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes.

Skyfall was the highest grossing Bond film ever and was nominated for five Oscars and won one for Best Original Song with Adele’s Skyfall.

Dick Smith issues recall for portable DVD players which may catch fire

dicksmithrecallDick Smith has issued an urgent recall for four of its Dick Smith-branded portable DVD players sold in Australian and New Zealand because they pose a fire risk.

The players sold between November 2009 and July 2012 were found to have a problem with the internal lithium ion rechargeable battery which could overheat and catch fire.

The affected units are the 7-inch portable D6200, the 7-inch dual screen D6201, the 9-inch dual screen D6203 and the 7-inch portable GE4203.

First look at Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs in biopic

jobstribute3The first official shot of Ashton Kutcher in his role as Steve Jobs in the upcoming biopic has been released by the Sundance Institute before the film’s premiere at the famous festival.

The independent film jOBS (yes the J is meant to be lower case) will be the closing night film of the Sundance Film Festival on January 27.

This first picture of the Two and Half Men star Ashton Kutcher in character as Steve Jobs shows a remarkable resemblance to the former Apple co-founder and CEO.
