Australians unaware of the size of their online digital footprint

digitalfootprintNew research for National Cyber Security Awareness Week has uncovered an alarming complacency when it comes to sharing personal information online.

PayPal Australia’s study showed that while Australians are tech savvy they still know a lot less than they think about their online footprint.

Of the 1000 people surveyed by PayPal Australia, the company that makes it easy and secure to pay and receive money online, 55 per cent said they were unsure how many websites held their personal information.

Kogan launches world's first Android 4.2 smart TV

androidtv1Kogan has just released the world’s first 42-inch 3D LED full high definition smart TV running the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system.

Priced at just $449, the Kogan 42-inch Agora 3D smart TV offers users easy access to online content and entertainment along with their favourite apps and games.

Users will also be able to interact with their friends on social networks using the Kogan TV.

The Rise of the Digirati is a study that was conducted among 500 Australians how either owned a smartphone or tablet.

It set out to try and understand the role technology is playing in sparking creativity in our lives – especially around photography.

Apple's App Stores hits 50 billion downloads

50bapps2Apple has officially crossed the 50 billion download mark on the App Store less than five years after opening back in 2008.

The countdown began two weeks ago and Apple offered a $US10,000 App Store gift card to the lucky person who downloaded the 50 billionth app. The winner has yet to be announced.

Apple changed the home page of its website to announce the milestone with a picture of an iPad Mini and a user writing the word thanks on the screen using the Paper by Fifty Three drawing and painting app.

Google to launch All Access streaming music service

allaccessGoogle has joined the ranks of companies offering music services with the launch of All Access which allows users to stream unlimited music for a monthly fee.

The $US9.99 pricing puts it in line with similar popular services like Spotify which costs $11.99 a month here in Australia.

The service was announced at the annual Google developer’s conference in San Francisco and allows listeners to customise songs selections from 22 different genres as well as set up their own playlists.

BlackBerry targets youth with new Q5 keyboard smartphone

bbq5BlackBerry has unveiled the Q5 – a colourful new device with a physical keyboard which is aimed squarely at the youth market.

The Q5, announced at the BlackBerry World conference in Orlando, also has a touchscreen so users have the best of both worlds.

BlackBerry hopes the insatiable messaging and social networking demands on today’s youth will attract new users to the platform.

Samsung announces 5G mobile network breakthrough

gs4review5Samsung has conducted a successful trial of the world’s first 5G wireless technology which achieved data transmission speeds of 1Gbps and higher.

The technology won’t be ready for commercial consumption until around 2020 but would offer speeds more than 10 times faster that current 4G/LTE (Long Term Evolution)

A 5G network offering speed of 1Gbps and beyond would mean users can download large data files like an ultra high definition movie in a matter of seconds.
